Little north of Saltara there is the Villa of Bal\u00ec, a nice XVIII century structure placed at the end of a long boulevard flanked by cypresses, under the shadow of which, they say, ancient philosophers discussed about the Chief World Systems. Though it was built around a chapel dedicated to St. Martin, dating back to the XI century and rich with tales of ghosts, inside the Villa superstition surrenders to scientific rigour, as it hosts the Museum of Bal\u00ec, a modern interactive science centre and a great Italian excellence. It is a museum whose philosophy is \u201cIt is forbidden NOT to touch\u201d, since interactivity is its main feature: the visit to its nine halls consists of a variety of scientific experiments. An original and amusing way to enjoy science, most fitting to a light, children oriented popularization but very interesting to adults too, who grow curious about the great phenomena of physics and compete with children to access the installations. The museum is enriched with a planetarium whose diameter is 8 meters wide: on its surface visitors can admire the show of the firmament, travel like a spaceship between remote galaxies and land on planets millions of kilometres away from our Earth without quitting their comfortable seat. Still, the Museum of Bal\u00ec does not just virtually reproduce the stars. In the park of the villa visitors can go hunting for the Moon and the Sun by means of the powerful astronomical observatory. The main telescope, a 40 cm of diameter Ritchey-Chr\u00e9tien, shortens the distances between ourselves and the universe,and makes us see the celestial bodies as if they were indeed at hand.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
