Cagli is surrounded by a natural environment that is as luxuriant and imposing as beneficent. Moving from the little hamlet of Pieia, where, like in a postcard image, people still sit and cheerfully chat in front of a pretty little church, a most charming place can be found. Walking along a path surrounded by vegetation that spreads out of the ancient rocks, one climbs up a steep scree by the Cave of Noctules where, hostile to the sun, hide the namesake bats. Researches, performed in the cave by the Viterbo Branch of the University of Tuscia, brought back to light handicrafts dating back to the Bronze age, which are now shown at the Archaeological Museum of Cagli. There looms, majestic and imposing, the Arch of Fondarca, a spectacular rocky arch leading to a great natural amphitheatre surrounded by rock walls up to 80 metres high. This suggestive place is what is left of an ancient great cave, whose ceiling collapsed and created this astonishing place. The inner walls are equipped with climbing paths which turn the place into a real speleological gymnasium, one of the most beautiful in the whole region. On the opposite side of the amphitheatre, the path splits: by turning right, one can climb up the arch and feel the emotion of getting from one wall to the other through a walkway tight, but accessible to everybody. By walking straight ahead, instead, one gets under a hanging rock that pours down water all the time and creates a gentle rain which drops down lightly and joins the little Giordano creek, a tributary of the Bosso River. By this side of Nerone Mountain one can thus enjoy either this or one of the many other paths in contact with Nature, along tracks that cross the wonderful Cagli and its territory.<\/p>\n\n\n
