Nature offers sometimes places created to welcome visitors and fill their heart with joy. Pesaro lies inside a territory that is capable of offering such emotions. Northward, not far from the city centre, the green of St. Bartolo hill, where the homonymous park lies, offers a pleasant walk in the middle of hornbeams and maples, in a woody environment which gradually changes while approaching the blue of the sea, which the hill bites with its steep cliffs. The Park turns into a theatre through natural stages, which raise their curtains on the show of the Adriatic Sea, such as the Montagnola upland, which was consequently nicknamed “the roof of the world”. There are also little hamlets, which like stone crabs cling to the promontories, such as Fiorenzuola di Focara and Casteldimezzo, where one can spend hours admiring the sea that breaks its waves on the thin pebbly beaches at the feet of the high rocky walls. Southward, close to the city, the shores become wide, sandy and calm, ideal to those in search of relax and rest. It is not by chance that the Pesaro seaside was awarded the Green Flag, dedicated to children-oriented localities, as well as the Blue Flag because of its constant care for the high quality of bathing waters and of the offered service. A seaside which charmed even Luciano Pavarotti, who chose this area for his summer residence, where year after year he hosted great singers and musicians, all ready to be inspired by the sea, whose sound they tried perhaps to transfer into their music. Thanks to its position, in the shore named after the tenor’s name, as well as all along the Flaminia Bay, between June and July a show as rare as suggestive can be admired: in fact, both the changing reflexes of dawn and the red shades of sunset take place on the horizon of the sea. Around this peculiarity turns “Sunset Best View”, a festival of concerts, readings and taste itineraries celebrated in the light of dusk. The link between light and sea comes to life, in Pesaro, also in the night of St. Laurent, when people dine on the beach and the whole shore is brightened with the soft candlelight of “Candles under the stars”, a seaside version of the “Candele a Candelara” (Candles in Candelara) Christmas street markets.
