Apecchio is wrapped up in nature’s hugs.
One is touched by the perfect synthesis of natural and human work. From Apecchio, built on an alluvial terrace created by the confluence of the Biscubio and the Menatoio rivers like branches from a tree irradiate long boulevards and Viale di Velluto (Velvet Boulevard), a large road shadowed by beech trees and hornbeams, stands out.
The breeze only, rustling fresh through the leaves, breaks the silence while we travel it. No matter if the sun beams reach down to us through the branches and we get hot: we can cool down at a nearby source of precious sulphurous water. Still, the great protagonist of Apecchio’s landscape is Mount Nerone. Majestic and wild, this mountain is an invitation to adventure and exploration to everybody, both those who want to put to a test their athletic abilities and those who just wish to be pleased by a calm walk.
Many well marked paths ensure one can walk slow and safe. We can take our time to look at the beautiful glimpses appearing when clearings open the thick woods; we are invested by the smell of wild orchids growing on the lawns, where one can meet grazing animals, peacefully browsing under the clear sky. We can even tour these paths on horseback to feel even more in communion with the environment. Lovers of sport have a lot of choice. The calcareous nature of rocks on Mount Nerone created canyons, ravines and caves, exciting challenges to those who wish to try climbing or speleology. The presence of steep climbs and narrow turns following the profile of the slopes makes adrenaline raise in the veins of those who decide to travel them by mountain bike. And in winter, when the snow covers the slopes, we can have healthy walks and leave our prints on the white blanket using snow rackets, or exploit the ski plants for fast ski or snowboard descents.
